The Madhya Pradesh government will soon present a policy on electric vehicles and also try to attract investment in the sector, state minister Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon said on Thursday.
“We are finalizing our electric vehicle industry policy and it will soon be launched by Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. We want to attract maximum investment in this sector, “the minister for industrial policy and investment promotion told reporters after opening the two-day Madhya Pradesh Auto Expo here.
Department Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Shukla said the state government’s plan was to present its electric vehicle policy at this fair, but as some of its points have yet to be finalized, it cannot be presented at the event and will be launched in May-June.
More than 100 companies dedicated to the production of vehicles and their parts participate in the exhibition. People can visit it without paying any entrance fees, officials said.
Dattigaon also called on industries involved in the production of vehicles, semiconductor chips and other auto components to invest in the state.
National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX), located near Pithampur, is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Asia and investors can benefit from it too, the minister said.
On the occasion, he said that the state government has already provided 4,500 hectares of land to the vehicle manufacturing units in Pithampur and Mandideep and that there is also enough land available for new units. Existing vehicle manufacturing units export to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore each year and these factories are generating employment for two lakhs of people.
