Classification of Hybrid Vehicles are based

A hybrid car combines both energy sources. Many combinations are commonly used, such as diesel/electric, gasoline/flywheel, and fuel cell (FC) battery. Normally, one source is energy storage and the other converts fuel into energy. The combination of two power sources can support two separate propulsion systems or can be combined into one propulsion system.

For example, a truck that uses diesel to drive a generator that in turn drives several electric motors for all-wheel drive is not considered an underhybrid .

However, if the truck has electric energy storage to provide a secondary mode, assistance from the primary propulsion source, then it is an HEV.

Two power supplies can be connected in series or in parallel. In the series, the engine charges the battery, and the battery in turn is charged by the electric motor, which drives the car. In parallel, the motor and the electric motor form the driving force. Regenerative braking is one of the new technologies used in modern HEVs used to improve fuel economy. Unlike conventional friction braking, regenerative braking converts the vehicle’s kinetic energy into electrical energy.

What is a hybrid vehicle?

Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Series Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) is the main driving characteristic. the car’s power comes only from the engine. The SHEV drive system consists of three drive units: engine, generator and drive. The engine is composed of a number of sources, the engine is not directly involved in the SHEV drive, it is combined with only the generator as the power system.

Parallel Hybrid Vehicle

The most important feature of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is that the engine and motor can provide the driving force of the automobile at the same time or separately. The PHEV propulsion system consists of two main energy sources: When the load is low, the engine or motor is used only as a source of power, and when high power is needed, engine and engine can be used simultaneously as a source of energy to drive the vehicle.

Lower the Cost

Compared with traditional cars, HEVs can ensure the same performance and advantages, while being superior in energy saving and emission. For now, the price of HEV is about 20% higher than traditional cars. Reducing costs is one of the directions to improve the competitiveness of hybrid electric vehicles.
