The Italian carmaker is revealing new details about the sports car, the first step in its plan to be fully electric by 2030.
Almost 100 years after the launch of the first Maserati car in Italy in 1926, the brand is entering a new era with the electric GranTurismo Folgore. The $170,000 sports car with a range of 280 kilometers will hit the market in 2023, with two gas-powered models: Modena and Trofeo. Maserati first announced the Folgore, which means “fire” in Italian, in March and unveiled a model in April.
A new specification provides details on the battery and motor that make the Folgore the most powerful of the three new GranTurismo models.
The 92.5 kWh battery will have three 300 kW motors, which deliver an amazing 760 hp to the wheels. The car will go from zero to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 199 mph, the Verge reports.
The electric car that competes with the Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, owned by Bill Gates, goes from zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds.
Maserati’s battery design team designed the battery in a “T-bone” shape to maintain the low profile of its sports car — about 4′ 5.27″ tall, the Detroit News reports.
“The shape… avoids placing the battery module under the seat, mainly moving them around the central tunnel and therefore lowers the H-shaped car,” explains the automaker.
Maserati will offer electric versions of all its cars by 2025 and plans to stop selling gasoline-powered cars by 2030. After the GranTurismo Folgore, Maserati will launch all Produced Grecale SUV. It will arrive at dealerships in the fall of 2023 under the Folgore brand, “Maserati Grecale Folgore.”
It’s a big bet that the recent strong market for the Stellantis brand will continue. In 2021, Maserati sold 41% more cars than the previous year, delivering 24,269 cars worldwide. This increased the market share of luxury cars to 2.4% (2.9% in North America, 2.7% in China) and generated more than 2 million euros in revenue. net business.
The GranTurismo Folgore will join other luxury electric sports cars such as the 2023 Audi e-tron GT (opens in a new window) and the 2023 Porsche Taycan. At $170,000, it will be one of the most expensive electric sports cars on the market.
