Ather 450X Gen 3 and 450 Plus Gen 3 Launched

We recently rode the Ather Energy 2022 450X electric scooter in Bengaluru and first launched it on July 19. Now in their 3rd generation, the 450X and 450 Plus get custom upgrades instead of top-of-the-line hardware. upgrades and this has led to incremental improvements in reach, performance and user interface (UI).

Here is the latest electric scooter Ather. At first glance, one would be hard-pressed to find changes to the Gen 3 450X, as the exterior design will remain the same in 2022.

But upon closer inspection, after receiving complaints, you’ll notice the redesigned wing mirrors from Ather about the previous design being aesthetic but impractical. Bangalore-based electric car maker Ather Energy has launched the Gen 3 450X and 450 Plus scooters in India.

Ather Energy, an Indian electric car company based in Bangalore, was founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain. Ather Energy is one of the market leaders in electric two-wheelers. The company offers two electric scooters – Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus. After the success of one of its cars, the Ather 450x, the company has announced the launch of a new scooter. These new models of electric scooters are an improved version.

  • The e-scooter now has a certified range of 146 km and its actual range is 105 km per charge.
  • For better performance, new wheels are used, capable of providing 22% more traction and better braking.

The updated Ather 450X is priced at Rs 1,57,507 and the 450 Plus at Rs 1,35,996 (ex-showroom India including government subsidy). The outgoing 450X is priced at Rs 1,52,401 and the 450 Plus at Rs 1,33,391 (total price ex-showroom India with Fame II subsidy). Available on the premium side of the electric scooter, the Ather e-scooter.

The Gen 3 Ather 450X and 450 Plus get a larger 3.7kWh lithium-ion battery, as opposed to the older 2.9kWh unit. The updated 450X retains a ‘real range’ of 85km in ‘Drive Mode’ and 105km in ‘Eco Mode’, a significant increase over the previous range figures of 70km (Drive Mode) and 85km (Eco Mode).

The Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range has also been increased to 146 km from 116 km. On the other hand, the 450 Plus gets an updated actual range of 70 km (10 km more) in Ride mode and 85 km (15 km more) in Eco mode.

Thoughts on the new Gen 3 Ather electric scooter

Ather’s new Gen 3 electric scooters bring with them many small improvements, including a larger battery, making the new 450X and 450 Plus both useful for those looking for a reliable and sporty electric two-wheeler.

In terms of rivals, the Ather scooter will have to compete with the likes of the Ola S1 Pro, the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak.
